Lithgow Mercury May 6th 1898
(From our own correspondent)
A man named John Taylor employed by the contractor for the fencing here, met with a painful accident on Monday. He was engaged at the time procuring bark for a camp and standing on a forked stick propped against the tree, he slipped, one of the prongs passing through his arm near the shoulder. He was hanging thus but before assistance reached him the flesh tore away breaking several of the sinews. His mate sewed and bound the arm temporarily. He left this (Tuesday) morning for the Lithgow hospital.
Last week Mr Jeremiah Wilson on exploring bent, was lowered down a hole 230 feet in depth but owing to the lateness of the hour in which he went down, very little time was left him to pursue his avocation. He thinks however there are good caves to be found there.
The photo rooms and the post office which are being erected and nearing completion will greatly add to the picturesqueness of this valley, the architecture being unique.
