THE CAVES HOUSE

Let at 400 pounds a year

The Minister for Mines Mr Sydney Smith says he is very pleased to be able to announce that he has secureda tender of j400 per annum for the lease of the Jenolan Caves House. This will pay good interest on the money spent by the Government in improving the accomodation. The tenders for the lease closed on Tuesday at the Mines Department and the highest proved to be that of Mr Harry Smith of the railway refreshment rooms, the rent being offered by him being j400 per annum. The tenders will have to be examined and checked but it is not likely that any change in the result will be made by this process. The new lessee will take over the premises from July 1. The price is regarded as particularly satisfactory in view of the fact that the lessee is bound by the conditions of the lease not to sell fermented or spiritous liquors. The building is a very handsome structure and is believed to be the first built in this colony out of native limestone.
