Lithgow Mercury August 5th 1898
Jenolan Caves
The petition that was forwarded to the Postal Department asking for a daily mail throughout the year instead of tri-weekly during the winter between Oberon and the Caves has been successful. It was started yesterday, the 1st inst.
Mr McKenzie Inspector of Schools has paid us a visit in regard to the petition for a school. Mr McKenzie was favorably impressed with the children who rolled up in force.
The weather has been cold and disagreeable on and off during the last week. The surrounding hills were covered with snow. It is now clearing.
JENOLAN CAVES Wednesday - the weather yesterday had every appearance of clearing up but just at dusk snow began to fall and in a few hours the surrounding mountains were a perfect picture, with the bright moonlight revealing the snow.

The Sydney Mail devotes a considerable space this week to a description of the recent additions and improvements at the Jenolan Caves. A number of excellent photographs are also reproduced.
